Taking pictures of the sunset when you don’t have access to a camera can be quite tricky. It is always about making the decision of either yourself or the sun looking good. Keep reading to see how you can get that perfect instagram that your friends will be jealous of!
Catch the sun at the right time
It is important to snap the picture when the sun is on its way down, but not when it has already set and there is no longer any light. If you want to be visible at the foreground as well as the sun, you need to catch the sun right before it goes down.
I recommend taking a few pictures, and keeping the focus on the sun. Don’t worry if you look a little dark, you can turn up the brightness on the iPhone later – however it is important not to do it too much so that the beautiful sunset at the background can still be visible!
Lower the exposure
When it comes to taking a pic of the sun by itself, remember that the iPhone has a very useful feature that lets you focus on a specific object by tapping on it, and then sliding your finger down so that the object becomes more in focus. This technique works very well when taking pictures of the sun, as it makes it appear round instead of blurry. It also makes the sun in the picture resemble more what you are seeing with your eyes.
Involve the foreground (and the sky!)
During the hours of sunset and sunrise, I most like watching the sky and the way it light up and suddenly becomes a mixture of different pink undertones. When photographing this, I also like to include palm trees (such as in the picture above), which I think are very photogenic and give the picture more of a wow-factor.
When seeing a beautiful sunset, I always wish I could capture it as it is. A simple iPhone can never capture the beauty that the human eye sees, but it can try!
