1. Shopping in Propriano

One of the most surprising things we found about Propriano was that it was an amazing place or shopping. The town itself is very laid back, and not very picturesque, however, if you do find yourself in this area, it is definitely worth checking out the shops.
We had fresh seafood lunch with a view of the port at a restaurant called restaurant Le Rescator. This was followed by the exploration of the shops. At first glance, they looked very touristy, selling only souvenirs, but taking a walk along the main street makes you realise that there is a great selection of not only souvenirs, but also clothes, shoes, household items, and a lot more.
If you walk from the restaurant toward Plage de Propriano, this is where you will find the best shopping. If you need to buy a hat, a beach bag, or some new summer clothes, this is a really great way to spend the afternoon.
2. Visit the historic town of Sartรจne

When we kept driving past Sartรจne and one day became curious to go into the town to see what it was really like.
And we were pleasantly surprised.
Located 1.5 hours by car from Ajaccio and 30 minutes from Propriano, the town is very small but very charming, and definitely a hidden gem worth checking out if you find yourself in the area.
The historic Old Town is filled with cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops. A wander through here feels like you have stepped back in time, as it gives a glimpse into what Corsica used to be like. In fact, the town is often referred to as “most Corsican of Corsican towns” due to its Medieval buildings and historical significance.
Sartรจne is also well known for the Catenacciu Procession, which takes place here every Easter during the Holy Week. It dates back all the way to the 13th century and involves a person carrying out all the Stations of the Cross through the city. This is meant to mirror the symbolism of Christ on his way to the crucifixion.
The town is very beautiful from the outside too, with its burgundy coloured buildings stacked together with the backdrop of the mountains. We stopped along the road leading into the town for a great view of the town.
3. Dinner at Sheepfold of Acciola

Dinner at Sheepfold of Acciola is an unforgettable experience that you absolutely need to add to your Corsica itinerary.
Located in the countryside, the restaurant is a little bit out of the way. However, this is also what makes it so special. With a view over the Corsican hills, the sunset here is truly spectacular. The atmosphere is also wonderful. The restaurant is almost always full, which also means that you need to book it ahead of time.
The food is of course also delicious here, and all dishes are made with fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced directly from the surrounding area. There is an open BBQ where you can watch the meats getting roasted, adding to the experience. Some of the must try dishes include tender lamb, homemade charcuterie, and rich cheeses, including the islandโs famous brocciu.
4. Day trip to Lavezzi islands

One of the best things to do in Corsica is to take a boat trip to the Lavezzi Islands. You will usually take the boat from Bonifacio, at the famous port where you can admire some of the most impressive boats parked here.
As you take the boat out, you will immediately notice the incredible impressive rock formations that surround Bonifacio. Make sure to stop along the way at the nature reserve in Bonifacio. It is one of the most beautiful places to swim and snorkel. I couldn’t believe the view as I flew the drone and saw it from above!

Once you do arrive in the Lavezzi islands, you will be greeted with some of the most beautiful scenery. With white sand beaches, and the clearest water you have ever seen, this might just become your new favourite place. There is not much civilisation around, but you can swim to shore and climb a few viewpoints for stunning scenic views.
The rocks can be quite sharp and very hot so make sure to take some water shoes with you. I would also recommend bringing a waterproof case or GoPro if you want to take your camera or phone with you.
5. Lunch at La Ferme

La Ferme is a hidden gem in the Lavezzi Islands and definitely one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever seen.
The restaurant is located on Cavallo Island. The island is only accessible by boat or by helicopter – which already tells you a lot about the types of people you expect to find here!
As you step foot on the island, you will need to take the golf buggy to get to the restaurant. It really feels like a VIP experience, as you arrive and are greeted with people dressed up and are greeted to the most jaw dropping view. To me, this place reminded me of Scorpios in Mykonos or a restaurant that you would find in Mallorca. The views are truly perfect as you can see the turquoise water and the sailing boats going by. I could have sat and watched this view forever…
The food was nothing short of incredible here. The chef is from Greece, so he enjoys combining flavours from his country with those of the island. The starters were tuna tataki, octopus, and seabass ceviche. Every dish was a work of art.
For the mains, we chose to share a fish – all the fish and seafood here is freshly caught on the day and is served with roasted vegetables.
This restaurant is more on the expensive side but it is 100% worth the trip if you are doing the boat trip to Lavezzi Islands.
6. Relax at Palombaggia beach
The best things do to in Corsica definitely revolve around the breathtaking beaches on the island.
Palombaggia beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Corsica. When you arrive here, you will immediately understand why. It really is the epitome of why Corsica is one of the most beautiful places in Europe.
The crystal clear water is one thing, but the beach is also very wide, meaning that you are almost guaranteed to find space here. On busy days in peak season, it can get very crowded. Especially as families come here to relax and enjoy the shallow water.
If you want a little bit of privacy, I would recommend paying for a sunbed and umbrella where you can spend all day.
For lunch, head to Playa Baggia, which serves delicious local food with the most incredible views of the sea.
If you want to explore the surroundings and take pictures, there are a couple of trails and coves you can explore. Between Palomgabbia beach and Plage de la Folaca, there is a small elevation which offers incredible views over both beaches.
7. Plage de la Folaca

Plage de la Folaca is almost identical to Palombaggia beach. It is located right next to it, and also offers a wide stretch of sand with crystal clear waters.
The beach is located a short drive away from Porte Vecchio. It can definitely be considered to be one of Corsica’s best kept secrets.
We went to Linda Beach for the sunbeds and umbrellas. Them we had a great lunch with a view at Da Mare by Sea Lounge. This restaurant gets very full quickly, so I would suggest booking in advance as we had to wait a while to find space here. They also have sunbeds which are luxury and comfortable but they also require reservation.
8. Explore Ajaccio
Ajaccio is located on the western coast on the island. It is particularly fascinating to visit due to the fact that this was the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Once here, make sure to visit the Bonaparte family house, Maison Bonaparte. This is where Napoleon grew up, and is currently a museum that exhibits the large and simple residence.
Inside of the house, you will find The Napoleon and Bonaparte Museum, which is also worth a visit to learn more about his life. Here you will be able to see Napoleon’s bedroom growing up, family relics, historical dosuments, as well as weapons and military memorabilia.
The museum is located in the old town. After visiting the museum you can take a stroll in the neighbourhood. The area is very charming, filled with a lively atmosphere and nice boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. Do not miss a visit to Place Foch, a square surrounded by palm trees. Here youโll find a daily market selling local Corsican products like cheeses, cured meats, and honey.
Ajaccio is also surrounded by stunning beaches. So if you do find yourself in the area, it is definitely worth spending some time discovering these. The closest beach is Plage de Saint-Franรงois, which is walking distance from the city centre. For hidden gems, Plage dโArgent or Capo di Feno are amazing options too and they will definitely take your breath away.
9. Visit Porto Vecchio

One of the best things to do in Corsica is to explore Porto Vecchio. Located on the southeastern coast of the island, Porto Vecchio is known for its charming old town, cobblestone streets, lively shops and restaurants, medieval architecture and the vibrant marina. It is the perfect place to be based for your trip due to its proximity to the most beaches of Corsica.
If you do not stay here, however, it is still worth coming to Porto Vecchio to explore the town. You can get lost in the narrow maze-like streets as you wander from one shop to another and enjoy the bustling atmosphere. Do not miss the Bastion de France, Place de la Rรฉpublique, and Porte Genoise, and the 16th-century citadel.
Other than the old town, it is also worth taking a stroll along the marina. Take a walk here to admire the views of the boats around and eat delicious seafood at a sea-front restaurant.
10. Explore Bonifacio

Located on the southern tip of the island, Bonifacio was my favourite town to visit during our trio to Corsica. Bonifacio is truly unique in that it offers breathtaking views, with a mix of great restaurants, bars, and shops. Seeing Bonifacio from the water is even more special. You can truly see and appreciate the city built atop the dramatic cliffs.
The best part of Bonifacio is definitely the old town. Located on top of a cliff in a 9th century citadel, it offers some of the most spectacular sea views. It is lovely to watch the boats go by all day in a picturesque setting. Inside, is a maze of narrow streets, and the atmosphere is often lively as the streets are filled with shops and restaurants with outdoor patios.
Take a walk along the marina, where you can admire some very big boats from all over the world. End the day by enjoying a delicious meal at one of the restaurants along the promenade. This is also where you will find clubs and bars if you do fancy a night out.
11. Michelin dinner at La Table de la Ferme

If you are loooking for a one-of-a-kind experience in Corsica, then you need to have the Michelin dinner at La Table de la Ferme at Domaine de Murtoli hotel.
The setting of the restaurant is incredible. It really feels like you are entering another world as soon as you drive into the huge property of the hotel. The restaurant itself is located next to a farm, and all the food is made of the freshest local ingredients.
The presentation is the most unique aspect of the meal. Some dishes are brought as part of a basket, and the wine selection looks like a collection of books. The atmosphere is very peaceful – we had a live musician ploaying the piano, adding to the very calm vibe. It is definitely a very romantic place. I would highly recommend it adding it to your itinerary, whether you are celebrating a special occasion or not.
12. Relax at Kosten Plage beach

On Santa Giulia beach, lies Kosten Plage – a nice beach club with comfortable sunbeds and the perfect shade under the trees. I would recommend making a reservation but we managed to find some sunbeds without one too.
Santa Giulia beach is another one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The water here is incredibly clear and shallow. Take a walk and you will discover lots of magical small coves where the locals like to relax and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. I could not believe the colour of the water here. I have to say that this was one of my favourite spots on the island.

For lunch, head to Le bar Plage. This restaurant is right on the beach and offers a great choice of food, from seafood to pasta and more. I had spaghetti and tiramisu for dessert, and both were delicious.
13. Escalier du Roy d’Aragon

Climbing 189 steps of this staircase in Bonifacio is a must do activity if you wish to see one of the most unique views in the city, and one of the best things to do in Corsica. As you walk along the side edge of the cliff, you have 180 degree views of the sea. Arriving to the bottom of the stairs, you are very close to the sea as you walk along the turquoise water.
According to legend, the staircase was built overnight by the soldiers of King Alfonso V of Aragon in 1420 during an attempted siege of Bonifacio. However, historical records suggest it was actually constructed by local monks to access a freshwater source hidden in the cliffs. Regardless of the story, the staircase remains an impressive architectural landmark.
In order to walk down, you will need to ensure that your shoes are not slippers. You will also get given a helmet to wear.
Kids who climb all the steps will receive a diploma as a reward at the end!
The climb costs โฌ5 for adults and โฌ2 for kids.
14. Aiguilles de Bavella
Contrary to popular belief, Corsica is not just about beaches. It also offers incredible opportunities for hikes, and Aiguilles de Bavella is one of the most beautiful places on the island for it.
The most popular viewpoint is the Col de Bavella (Bavella Pass), rising at at 1,218 meters. It is also the starting point of many hikes, from easy to challenging. However, for those not wishing to hike, it also offers some easy viewpoints where you can take in the panoramic viewpoints. The best time to come here is during sunrise or sunset for even more spectacular views.
The most popular hike is the Trou de la Bombe, a 5-km round-trip hike leading to a massive natural rock hole. It is not too challenging and takes a few hours depending on your ability, making it the perfect hike for most visitors. Along the way, you will find incredible photo opportunities due to the pine trees and ragged peaks that open up in front of you.
if you are an experienced hiker, this is also where you will find the GR20 – one of Europe’s most challenging long distance hikes. This hike passes through Bavella and offers some of the best views of the island.
15. Day trip to Sardinia

If you have an extra day in your itinerary and want to visit another nearby island, then I would highly recommend visiting Sardinia for a day. The ferry goes from Bonifacio to Santa Teresa Gallura and takes only 50 minutes for the crossing. There are ferries running here daily – we took the ferry with Moby lines but Ichnusa Lines is another option.
There are a few things you can do in Sardinia if you come here for a day trip. The first and probably best option is to relax on one of the stunning beaches that Corsica offers. This is what we chose to do. We purchased a day pass at Vesper beach Club and relaxed at Capriccioli beach. There are hundreds of stunning beaches in Sardinia, so there are plenty to choose from!

Another option is to explore Porto Cervo. This is by far the most upscale and high end town on the island, attracting celebrities and wealthy travelers for luxury shopping. From Dior to Prada, you will find every luxury shop here in a tropical setting. Take a stroll along the marina and admire the luxurious yachts from all over the world or have a drink with a view of the dock. We had lunch at Elite Promenade Cafe and grabbed a gelato from the ice cream from La Pasqualina – both of which I would highly recommend.
